Top three platform points

1. More fair and reasonable restrictions on AI usage
AI is the future of science, research, and industry, and students should be learning how to use it effectively—not avoiding it out of fear. I will advocate for more lenient, consistent AI policies that allow responsible use for learning, problem-solving, and skill development. Instead of blanket restrictions, Waterloo should teach students how to use AI ethically and efficiently as a modern academic and professional tool.

2. Fair and consistent grading across sections

Students taking the same course should not face different grading standards based on section or instructor. I will push for shared grading frameworks, common rubrics, and departmental review when grade outcomes differ significantly between sections.

3. Stronger academic support through review tutorials and low-pressure labs

I will advocate for optional, TA-led review tutorials, not just during exams, but held monthly to help students consolidate material and reinforce problem-solving. I also support expanding hands-on lab opportunities that prioritize learning and exploration without unnecessary grading pressure.

Reason why someone should vote for you in 100 words or less

I’m running to improve the everyday academic experience for Science students. Through leadership experience working as my highschool president, I know how to turn student concerns into action. As a first-year Science student, I’m navigating these systems right now, which is why I’m focused on guaranteed access to required courses, fair grading across sections, and stronger academic support through review tutorials and low-pressure labs. I’ll bring a current, practical student perspective to Senate and advocate for clear, student-focused standards.

3rd Year, BSc Psychology

Top three platform points

1. Keep tuition and fees low by challenging proposed increases and lobbying for more provincial funding.

I know that tuition and fees cause students stress and that increases are unwelcome. As a member of the UW Board of Governors, I am the candidate that can vote on these increases and talk to provincial representatives. I will question anything beyond increases for inflation. I will also communicate rational for fee changes to Science students to increase transparency.

2. Broaden extracurricular opportunities for Science students.

Extracurriculars are what makes university unique. UW needs Science students to contribute across the university. I will lobby administrators (i.e. the Dean) to increase the availability and awareness of lab experiences not just in the Faculty of Science, but across UW. I will also push for more options for international exchanges as these are life-changing experiences that more Science students should have.

3. Build authentic relationships between the university administration and students

The best leadership is transparent leadership. The university administration can improve by intentionally listening to students and building bridges with us. I will facilitate that by inviting administrators to student events and sharing YOUR issues and opinions with them.

Reason why someone should vote for you in 100 words or less

In my previous term as Science Senator, I increased student representation on the Science Faculty Council from 2 seats to 5, advocated for more study days between the end of classes and exams, lobbied for improved maintenance of our buildings and residences, built academic culture by hosting public debates (i.e. on AI & academia), and engaged students with opinion articles in Imprint. The Senate colleagues have recognized my dedication by electing me to the UW Board of Governors. If re-elected I will continue advocating for Science students by building on these accomplishments and delivering on my platform points.

Program & Year of Study

4A, Life Science

Top three platform points

1. UWaterloo degree-tracking software

UWaterloo students do not have software that helps us track our credits and UW Flow is rapidly becoming obsolete. The university has the information we need to track our progress toward graduation, and students should too! We shouldn’t have to wander around, website to website, spreadsheet to spreadsheet, trying to figure out if we are going to graduate on time.

2. Democratizing senate and the university as a whole

Students have no consistent pathway to bring motions to the Senate floor. As things stand, the only serious way to bring a motion forward is to find the right person in the administration to consider you. Even when they do, by the time the motions reach us, they have been reviewed and modified to the point where the idea is a shell of its former self.

Elected senators, both student and Faculty, should have consistent pathways to bring motions to the senate floor, without first needing to convince a handful of often overpaid and out of touch administrators.

3. University divestment from genocide

Horizon fought hard and succeeded in getting the University to cut ties with Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. It’s time to finish the job, and get the University to echo the support that students have shown for Palestine and human rights, divesting its investments from sources who are complicit in human rights abuses.

Reason why someone should vote for you in 100 words or less

As an incumbent senator, I have defended the right of university bodies to make statements in psupport of Palestine and divestment because the University shouldn’t have the authority to police speech, also succeeding in getting the university to cut ties with Technion. I have advocated for safety resources like WalkSafe and I will help expand IMPACT so that students having a mental health crisis can get help any day of the week, any hour of the day. As Science Senator, I am going to implement a degree-tracking software so that Waterloo students aren’t lost about if they’re on track to graduate.

Through building a united student senate, we can bring more than talk, and deliver real change to students.
